Positioning the patient in an upright or semi-Fowler's position is an appropriate intervention for someone experiencing shortness of breath. It also aids in improving venous return to the heart and allows for better oxygenation.

In contrast, positioning the patient prone or flat on their back can exacerbate shortness of breath.
